Sept 30, 2004

Things are still going well with my health. I do not have to return to the dr. until October 5. I feel good. I seem to have a ton of energy, but not enough to do. I plan on taking a class next week. And there is also a water aerobics class down the street that I can attend. The opportunities are endless I just need to change my thinking about what I CAN DO!

On a bad note, our cat Harry is under the weather. Actually in a kennel at the hospital down the street. We noticed that he had been vomiting Tuesday morning and just acting strange all around. We finally took him to the vet and found he has a blockage in his bladder. Well, he had to go under the knife with a catheter and IV with fluids. I feel so bad for him, but the dr. assures us that he is doing well and he shouldn’t have anymore problems if we continue on a special prescription diet. Harry will be returning home sometime this afternoon. I just hope they won’t send him here with one of those crazy white cones. Those have to be so embarrassing for an animal. Scott gets stones occasionally, they must be hereditary. haha

Take care

Went to get lab work done at the hospital Tuesday. My white blood count is going up again which is good, I guess the medication is doing it’s job. The doctors really have to balance all of the levels so I don’t get horribly sick or reject me new lungs. It really is a delicate balance.

The winds have been really strong here for the last few days. Both Scott and I are having major sinus issues. It is supposed to cease today. Thank goodness the wind just blows dirt and other allergens around. yuck.

Scott has his last day of orientation at the Getty Center today. I think he is looking forward to work instead of training. Last Sunday The Getty had a volunteer appreciation party, but all employees were allowed to attend. It was great. The food was wonderful and the desserts were to die for. Obviously I ate sugar, but I just can’t give pass up cakes or chocolate covered strawberries. I had two servings of dessert, I ate so many that there were none left when Scott went back to get one. I told him “the early bird gets the worm” or sweets in this case.

Hope you are well

Portion of an email

Mom sent me this email today and I got such a kick out of what my nephew said.

“I asked Alex if he missed having you at his house and he said yes, especially since you have your new lungs because now you can play tag and never have to be It. I guess that’s a successful transplant in the eyes of an 8 year old.”

It was kind of nice to never be “it”.

Sept 14 drs. appointment

Wednesday, September 15th, 2004

Well the appointment with Dr. Hodges went well today.

My x-ray looked good and my PFT (pulmonary function test) was up 10% overall!! The bloodwork was good except that my white blood count was low again. All the way back down to 2.1 when it should be at 4. They discontinued one medication and added a new one. I hope that there won’t be in crazy side effects. I begin the medication tonight, actually in an hour.

As I sit here writing, I can hear someone singing outside LOUD. I think it may be our resident homeless guy, Sergio. He loves spanish opera, I mean that is what the music sounds like to me. Is there such a thing as Spanish Opera? I wonder if anyone will call the police? Someone called on him a few weeks ago and the sheriff came to remove Sergio in handcuffs.I won’t call, unless the Spanish Opera keeps up past 11pm.

Guess who is turning 50 in two days?? Laurie Helderle. We already celebrated a little early with a surprise party two Saturdays ago. She seemed surprised for the party and for my visit. I was so happy to see her and spend time with her. She is the best mother ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Eve, Eve Mom.

Back in Los Angeles

Tuesday, September 14th, 2004

Hello. Long time no write.

Well I made it back from Saint Louis safe and sound on Saturday, Sept 11. I had a wonderful trip home. I was able to see a lot of of my family and friends, but missed out on a few. There just is not enough time when I’m home.

I stayed with Steve, Chris and the kids. IT was just like old times there. I loved it. My Dad had to get eye surgery. I was able to be there for that…not at the hospital, but at his house making Banana Pudding. He seems to be doing okay now, quite a bit of pain. I hope that will subside soon.

I am glad to be home with Scott and the pets. And I think that they are really glad to have me home.

Tomorrow I have a hospital visit. X-rays. Labwork, PFT and doctors visit…..OH MY!! I feel good except a  little heavier than when I left we’ll just see how much heavier.
See you Amanda
