Photopheresis over until January 17, 2008

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Amanda is getting a little break from the photopheresis treatments for a while. Today was her 12th treatment. rehab was scheduled for today but they were closed for the holiday, I guess. Amanda will continue with re-hab 3 days a week starting this Wednesday. Yesterday was a good day for her, she actually did a walk down and up the basement stairs twice. Her, Laurie and I are going to Gussippe’s for a late dinner and maybe celebrate the New Year, if she feels like it. Happy New Year.

12 Weeks of Photo pheresis completed on Friday

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

We’re halfway through the 24 weeks of photo pheresis. This is an amazing procedure where they try to fool your immune system into thinking the transplanted organs are yours. They actually take the white blood cells, radiate them and return them. The Doctors tell us that it normally takes at least 12 - 14 weeks before the immune system starts slowing down the attack on the new organs, thus slowing the rejection.  Next week Amanda and Laurie have treatments on Monday and Wednesday.
