The Adventurous Mandy takes Dad & Mom to New Restaurant

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Well her first night and she calls wanting to know if Laurie and I want to join her and Anita for a bite at her fabulous new Mexican Restaurant in the city. So we brave the 25 degree drop in the temperature, drive 45 minutes and dodge rain drops, inally we arrive. First off Mandy gave great identifying points so we would make sure we were at the right place, “It has a Budweiser sign in the window and an Open sign in the other” Mandy this is south St Louis, there are hundreds of those signs everywhere, well we do  manage to find the correct Open sign and go in.

This use to be a wild and crazy south side city bar, one my Dad use to frequent in his boxing days. anyone who knew G Bob in those days knows what I’m saying here. Anyway we get inside seems like a nice clean family run place. A little different though you order at a counter get your own drink and salsa and when your food is ready they bring it to your table. I love good tamales and when Mandy said they were as good as LA I was ready. So I ordered 2 pork and 1 cheese (no chicken) I gotta say my homemade tamales are much better, theirs don’t have much meat and way too much masa. Oh well the Margaretta was by far the best one I’d ever had, smooth, not a pre mix just a good ole Margaretta.

When you’re finished eating you pay at the register. Of course the register is not the same place you order your food, it’s at the opposite side of the restaurant. Strange. But again the Margaretta was awesome, and we plan on going back to have a few more in the future.

Oh by the way, Mandy my tummy was fine this morning :)

It was fun and so nice to see you in a good mood

Word on the street from the guy in the white coat is I will be able to leave very soon. WooHooo. Finally I can get back to life. I don’t have time for this hospital s#^$@. Great now I can make it to that skydiving apppointment I made for Sunday.

A pleasant afternoon

A good morning followed by a pleasant afternoon.

I decided that I had been cooped up too long in this hospital and since the weather is great, we went out on an adventure. One of the many things that I like about Barnes is that it’s in a great area. By foot you can do a lot of things. There is a Barnes and Noble, Applebees (yuck), Einstein’s Bagels, St Louis Bread Co, a Middle Eastern place, Tom’s grill (where I spent many late nights in my early 20s), Thai and even more places that I’d mention if I weren’t bored now. If I hadn’t been wearing my monkey slippers, I probably would have gotten some Thai, but I settled for a latte from The Bread Company. My first choice was a black and white cookie from Einsteins, but they were sold out-how dare they? It was really nice to get out of the hospital setting of gloom. It felt nice to be an average citizen out walking in my monkey slippers! Thank goodness the psychiatric institute didn’t see me…funny thing is the institute is right around the block.! Oh I didn’t mention my hair style–straight up in the air. I bet I did look crazy. Oh well, I was happy!

Thanks Jeff for being brave enough to walk around with this crazy haired, monkey slipper’d, stinky girl!

Be well!

Gooood Morrrninng

I woke up in  a good mood today — The 30 minute walk around the hospital and Kreagle made me feel a bit more positive about life. If you have never walked around a hospital at 1am it’s something you should do. It’s interesting to hear people at peace. The staff is even more relaxed and usually are acting slap happy after so many hours at work. I went to cafeteria for ice coffee and chips. When I returned to my empty room I was really peace’d out which made for a good night of sleeping.

I was awoken this morning by a respiratory therapist wiping my face off with a wet cloth. After the breathing treatments I get white powder all over my face , especially near my nose. I guess he didn’t want me to appear to be a cocaine addict. Anyway, it was really sweet and he has been the only therapist to do that for me.

Then to finalize my morning; two of my favorite nurses stopped by after their shifts to visit. Holly and Jen! It was so nice to see them both because it has been far too long. We arranged a breakfast date on the first Friday on March. It’ll be nice to catch up. Thanks girls for stopping by because I know you were probably exhausted.

Now, back to my french toast!
